12 February 2018: Media statement by Information Regulator about alleged unlawful processing of personal information of King Goodwill Zwelithini by My Way Insurance Company. Information Regulator say  despite certain sections of POPI not yet operative, the Regulator intends to proactively engage MiWay with regards to the processes and measures they have put in place to comply with the conditions for lawful processing of personal information as prescribed in POPI.

8 September 2017: The Regulator has gazetted its draft Regulations in terms of Section 112(2) of Act. No.4 of 2013 on 8th September 2017 for comments

13 February 2017: Media briefing on the work of the Information Regulator.

2 December 2016: The Information Regulator (SA) holds its Inaugural Meeting

17 May 2016: The Committee recommends that Adv. Pansy Tlakula be appointed as chairperson and four other candidates as members of the Regulator.

13 April 2016: The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services (“the Committee”) shortlists 10 candidates for positions within the Regulator.

24 July 2015: Parliament calls for nominations for candidates for five positions within the Regulator.

11 April 2014: Certain provisions relating to the establishment of the Information Regulator (“the Regulator”) and the making of regulations under POPI are brought into force.

19 November 2013: The Bill is signed into law by President Jacob Zuma and gazetted as the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPI”).

20 August 2013: The National Assembly passes the Protection of Personal Information Bill [B9D of 2009] (“the Bill”) to give effect to the constitutional right to privacy.
