This one-day seminar is intended to empower healthcare practice staff to fulfill their duties in terms of PAIA (the Promotion of Access to Information Act), POPI (the Protection of Personal Information Act) and the draft regulations under POPI as well as the National Health Act.
The seminar is intended to be practical and includes practical steps that Information Officers must take in order to start implementing POPI into the organisation.
Subjects that we will cover includes:

- Overview of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA)
- Reminder of the different healthcare legislation applicable on privacy and information security
- The duties of the Responsible Party, Information Officer. Operators and the Information Regulator
- The eight conditions for the lawful processing of personal information – what it say, your responsibilities
- Communicating with data subjects (your clients / patients / employees
- What is personal and special personal information in the healthcare context
- How to update the PAIA manual and what records to keep about the processing of personal information
- Steps you need to take to be compliant, including:
- Implementing and maintaining a privacy management framework
- Implement & Maintain a Governance & leadership Structure
- Identifying and mitigating privacy related tasks
- Create & Maintain Personal Information Inventory
Seminar Objectives
Participants will obtain an overview of the Protection of Personal Information Act and its implications for their organsations. On completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Articulate the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act
- Get a good understanding of the version of the POPI and PAIA Act that has been signed into law.
- Reduce the penalties for non-compliance, including fines up to R10 million or prison.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the conditions for the lawful processing of personal information
- Identify the technical and organisational measurements necessary for protecting personal information
- Describe the various roles and the responsibilities of the personnel who should be concerned about the protection of personal information
- Identify the effort required to meet the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act and the conditions for lawful processing and personal information contained therein.
Cost:
