Website Terms and Conditions
The terms that apply to using this website and to booking Assent Compliance seminars, webinars and training.
1. About these terms
These terms and conditions ("terms") apply to your use of the website assentcompliance.co.za ("the website") and to every booking made for an Assent Compliance seminar, webinar or other training event through the website, by e-mail or by telephone.
By using the website or making a booking you agree to these terms. If you make a booking on behalf of a practice, company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it, and "you" includes that organisation and its delegates.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA") or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 ("ECT Act") where those Acts apply to you. If any term conflicts with a right that cannot lawfully be excluded, that right prevails.

3. Using this website
You may use the website for lawful purposes only. You may not:
- use the website in a way that infringes the rights of others or breaks any law;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the website, its server, its forms or any data stored on it, or interfere with its security or operation;
- introduce viruses, automated scripts or other harmful code, or submit false, misleading or spam information through any form;
- copy, scrape or reproduce the website or its content for commercial purposes without our written permission.
We try to keep the website available and accurate, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the website at any time.
4. General information, not advice
Information on the website, in newsletters and in course material is general information about compliance, credit management, ethics and related law. It is not legal, tax or professional advice for your specific circumstances, and using it does not create an attorney–client or other advisory relationship. Laws, regulations and guidelines change; please obtain advice for your particular situation before acting on it.
5. Seminar and webinar bookings
- How a booking is made. You make an offer to book when you submit the online registration form or send us your booking details. We confirm receipt with a reference number and a pro-forma invoice.
- When your seat is secured. Seating at every seminar and the number of webinar places are limited and are allocated in order of payment. A booking is confirmed once full payment reflects in our account, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
- Accuracy of details. You are responsible for the accuracy of the delegate and billing details you provide. Certificates, joining links and invoices are issued using those details.
- Prices. Prices are in South African rand and are shown excluding VAT unless stated otherwise. VAT is added where applicable. The price that applies is the price shown when you submitted your booking.
- Group discount. Where advertised, the group discount applies per delegate when two or more delegates are registered together in the same booking. It cannot be combined with other offers unless we say so.
- CPD. Where an event is stated to carry CPD points, the points are awarded according to the rules of the relevant accrediting or professional body. Delegates must attend the full event (and, for webinars, all required sessions) to receive a certificate.
- Conduct at events. We may refuse entry to, or remove, a delegate whose conduct is disruptive, abusive or unsafe, without a refund.
6. Payment and invoices
Payment is by electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the bank account shown on the pro-forma invoice, using your booking reference as the payment reference. Please e-mail proof of payment to marais@assentcompliance.co.za. A tax invoice is issued once payment has been received. We do not accept card payments on this website and do not store any bank card details.
Always check that our banking details on an invoice match the details we have given you before. We will never change our banking details by e-mail without confirming the change by telephone. If you are in doubt, call us on 061 515 5194 before paying.
7. Changes, cancellations and substitutions
- Substitutions. You may send another person in place of a registered delegate. Please let us know the substitute's name and e-mail address in writing before the event.
- Cancellations by you. Cancellations must be made in writing to marais@assentcompliance.co.za. Where the CPA applies to you, you may cancel an advance booking, subject to a reasonable cancellation charge as permitted by section 17 of the CPA, taking into account how close to the event you cancel and whether we can fill your seat. Any other cancellation terms stated on your pro-forma invoice or booking confirmation also apply.
- Cooling-off. Where section 44 of the ECT Act applies to your electronic booking, you may cancel it without reason and without penalty within seven days after the booking was concluded, as provided in that section.
- Changes or cancellation by us. We may need to change a presenter, venue, date or time, or cancel an event, for example because of low numbers, illness, load-shedding or circumstances beyond our control. We will tell you as soon as possible. If we cancel or materially change an event and you do not accept the alternative, we will refund what you paid for that event in full, or transfer your booking to another date if you prefer. Our liability is limited to that refund or transfer.
8. Webinars, recordings and course material
- Webinar joining links are personal to the registered delegate and may not be shared or forwarded.
- Webinars may be recorded. Recordings, manuals, slides, templates and other material are licensed to you for internal use within your own practice or organisation only. You may adapt templates for your practice's own use, but you may not sell, publish, distribute or use them to train others.
- You are responsible for your own equipment, software and internet connection. We are not responsible if you cannot join or follow a session because of a problem on your side.
9. Intellectual property
All content on the website and in our course material, including text, graphics, logos, the Assent Compliance name and marks, manuals, templates and recordings, is owned by or licensed to Assent Compliance (Pty) Ltd and is protected by copyright and other laws. Except as allowed in these terms or by law, you may not copy, reproduce, adapt, distribute or publish it without our prior written permission.
10. Privacy and personal information
We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"). How we collect, use, share and protect personal information, and how you can exercise your rights, is explained in our Disclaimer and Privacy Notification and our Section 51 PAIA Manual. If you register other delegates, you confirm that you are entitled to give us their details for the booking.
11. Links to other websites
The website may link to websites of third parties (for example legislation, regulators or video-conferencing services). We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Assent Compliance (Pty) Ltd, its directors, employees and presenters are not liable for any loss or damage (including indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit or loss of data) arising from your use of, or inability to use, the website, from reliance on general information published on it, or from any event, except where the loss is caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct. Where we are liable in connection with a booking, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for that booking.
This clause does not exclude or limit any liability that may not be excluded or limited under the CPA or any other law.
13. Electronic communications
You agree that bookings, confirmations, invoices, notices and other communications may be concluded and sent electronically, and that a data message has the same legal effect as a written document, as provided in the ECT Act. A data message is regarded as received by us only once we have acknowledged it. If you do not receive our confirmation within one business day, please contact us.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If a dispute arises, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve it informally. Subject to any right you have to approach a consumer body or ombud, you consent to the jurisdiction of the Magistrate's Court having jurisdiction, even if the amount in dispute exceeds that court's monetary jurisdiction, but we may also approach the High Court.
15. General
- Changes. We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on the website when you make a booking applies to that booking.
- Severability. If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right immediately, we have not waived it.
- Whole agreement. These terms, your booking confirmation and pro-forma or tax invoice together form the whole agreement for a booking.
